Welcome to this weeks Podcast, our first in a Series about our marvellous, complex enigma and incredible computer that is our brain.
In recent times articles, scientific breakthroughs, and new knowledge and understanding of human ability, has come from the field of Neuro-Plasticity. It is said that ‘Neurons that fire together, wire together’.
We have huge neural networks, and many of them. Each activity or thought fires various neutron networks.
Our guest Raluca de Soliel helps us understand how these neural networks are created, lost, and importantly, how we can change ones that need changing (for example in relation to a phobia or a negative autonomous habit or behaviour).
This interview will help you understand the old adage ‘use it or lose it’ – which is basically – synaps (the neutron networks) are weighted. Think of it as the more a network is used the more it weighs, or the more fearful you are of something, the network weighs that synaps as important (it believes you need to escape the fearful thing so triggers a flight or fight response).
We hope you enjoy as much as we enjoyed listening to Raluca. Sign up for our blog, where we will be sharing great worksheets, explainers and content to understand more about the things we discuss in Series One : The Brain.
Be sure to come back next week, when we discuss Anxiety.
Until next time,
Jonny, Pennie and Ruth
